2016 TEACHERS
STEPHANIE PEARL-MCPHEE
Stephanie is the New York Times bestselling author of eight books, seven of which have a lot to do with knitting. (The eighth is lighter in the yarn department, but is still funny.) She's been knitting for more than forty years, and is also the author of the popular and long lived blog "Yarn Harlot” and part of the magic at the Strung Along Retreats for knitters. Stephanie loves to teach about knitting and thinks that most people would be surprised how important she thinks it is. She's the mother of three, wife of one, can drive a standard, and has owned two cats in a row that don't care much for her. Stephanie lives in an untidy, wool filled house in Toronto, Canada.
CAROL EDDINGTON
Carol received an MFA in Textile Design from the University of Kansas. She has been teaching knitting and crochet since 2004, as well as designing knitting patterns.
JOHANNA CONROY
Jo has been knitting since 2003, when she decided she didn’t need to spend $60 to get a Harry Potter scarf. One trip to Hobby Lobby later, she was hooked. She has been a guild member since 2007.
KIM DOMINIC
Kim has been a knitter off and on for over forty-five years, but in the last 20 or so, she has rarely put down the needles. An experienced and well-loved teacher, having taught at The Studio, Stitch Knitch, North Kansas City Continuing Education, and for the Sunflower Knitters Guild meetings and KITH, Kim enjoys sharing her love of knitting with others in a relaxed and easy-going way.
JACEY BOGGS FAULKNER
Jacey loves spinning and wants to help you love spinning too! If you already love it, she’s willing to thumb wrestle you to see who loves it more. She’s been thumb wrestling (and teaching) spinners for a dozen years, writing about spinning for a decade, and running PLY Magazine for…well, since she started almost 3 years ago. She’s pretty okay most of the time but her husband will bowl you over with his kindness.
LYNN HAFFNER
Lynn has been knitting for over 20 years. She works and teaches at The Studio Knitting and Needlepoint. She enjoys helping other knitters learn new skills.
NIRMAL KAUR KHALSA
My grandmother taught me granny squares when I was seven (many long years ago) and, while my interest waxed and waned over the years, I always kept my hooks and went back to it eventually.
In the 90's I got very inspired again and then began teaching about ten years ago at The Studio and through Communiversity. I was always changing patterns around and made up patterns for my classes, so I took the plunge and became a designer.
My patterns have been published in Interweave Crochet, Crochet!, Crochet 1-2-3, on RedHeart.com, and in several books.
DEBRA LEA
Debra has been knitting and crocheting for more than 50 years (OMG!) and teaching in the greater Kansas City area and at regional conferences for about 20 of those. She is certified by the Craft Yarn Council of America and has had crochet designs published in Interweave Crochet and in The Crochet Prayer Shawl Companion. Debra recently retired and she lives at Table Rock Lake with her husband and the world’s most handsome dog, Louie.
CHERYL MURRAY
I have been knitting for over 40 years and have been sharing my love of the craft through teaching for the past 15. I entered the world of professional knitwear design in 2006 when my first design was published in Knit Simple magazine. Since then, I've been honored to have my designs featured in Vogue Knitting, Knitters, Creative Knitting, Noro Magazine and multiple books published by Sixth & Spring Books. My passion is stranded colorwork, especially Nordic designs. I’m blessed with a husband & daughter who appreciate knitwear and who rarely complain about every surface in our house being covered by yarn, needles & stitch dictionaries.
MARY MORTENSEN
Mary has been a guild member for about 15 years and a knitting teacher almost as long. She loves to knit lace, colorwork, texture stitches, just about anything. For her day job, she is a book indexer.
JOANNA SHINDLER
Joanna is a geek’s geek who likes to make things and talk to other people who make things. She has presented panels about knitting and other fiber arts at Figments & Filaments, Emerald City Steampunk Expo, and previous KITH events.
